HD Jump Portable Radio for Car and Home
Visteon recently announced the HD Jump Portable Radio. The company calls it "the first portable HD Radio," but you have to understand that what it means by portable is that it fits in a cradle in the car and will play through a stereo in the home. The HD Jump Portable Radio uses your existing antenna for reception, and plays through the car's radio. When you're not in your car, you can take the unit into your home and use an optional home kit to hook it up your home stereo and listo to HD Radio. As you would expect from an HD Radio, the HE Jump Portable Radio displays text on a screen which can include song title, artist, radio station call letters, and other data. It also supports multicasting (HD2 channels), which lets stations broadcast multiple streams on the same frequency. It has six presets for storing up to 18 streams, and you can jack your iPod or other MP3 player into it viaan auxilliary input. Visteon says the HD Jump Portable Radio should begin shipping in early summer. The company has not yet announced a price.
