Broadcasters set to give away thousands of HD Radios
September 28, 2006 09:08

In a recent e-article, Radio Ink had this to say about HD Radio promotion:

"HD Radio broadcasters across the country will begin new promotions this winter by giving away thousands of new radios. The HD Radio receivers span three product categories, highlighted by a connector that upgrades listeners’ current car radios to receive all HD Radio programming. In addition, a table top radio and component tuner for home audio systems will be made available. iBiquity Digital is making these products available to HD Radio stations at $99 (plus S&H).

"'Now, more than ever, is the time to push listeners to retail stores to buy HD Radio products to truly appreciate the industry’s digital creativity,'said Robert Struble, president and CEO of iBiquity Digital. “This is a unique opportunity to accelerate consumer adoption of the technology, build listenership and grow stations’ ROI. Over the next six months, we expect to see a proliferation of creative promotions across the country that leverage these excellent products and bring consumers into stores.'"

So, stay tuned to your favorite stations that are broadcasting in HD and, who knows, you might be one of the lucky winners.

New module designs shold help lower the cost of HD Radios
September 29, 2006 07:15

In a recent article, Radio World reported that another Ibiquity receiver component licensee has developed HD Radio modules to help receiver manufacturers produce lower-priced IBOC products and get them to market quickly.

LG Innotek has released two module designs for tabletop and home receivers. Both were certified as compliant with Ibiquity’s Reference Design. LG says the hardware and software configurations are available in mass production quantities to all HD Radio licensees.

The modules provide a fast-track way for OEM consumer electronics manufacturers looking to integrate HD Radio technology into AM and FM radio product lines in a relatively short time frame, IBOC proponents said.

We can only hope this will speed the development and production of more HD Radios -- especially tabletop units.
