An article I ran across today reported that many stations are using their HD2 channels to broadcast Spanish language programming. These are primarily stations whose format is in English but who have launched HD2 multicast channels that broadcast Spanish programming almost exclusively . Cities that have a large Hispanic population have especially benefited from these new, let's call them HD Dos broadcasts. For example, there are now twelve frequencies broadcasting Hispanic formats where there were only three prior to HD Dos channels. In a totally unrelated story, well okay it is about HD Radio, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has announced that it will kick off its Radio '06 Conference with a special seminar titled "HD Radio: All the Basics and More." The info-session will feature issues facing broadcasters who are planning their HD radio conversion or are already on-air in digital. Me thinks the NAB wouldn't be kicking off its radio conference if it didn't think HD Radio is pretty darn important
Radio Ink today reported that there are 18 new stations that are multicasting or broadcasting HD2 channels. This latest wave will launch 140 additional HD2 channels and bring the total markets served by HD2 multicast programming to 68, all of which are in the top 100 markets In total, more than 600 radio stations nationwide belonging to HD Digital Radio Alliance members now offer HD2 multicast programming. "“We’re even surprised by how fast this is moving,” said Peter Ferrara, president and CEO of the HD Digital Radio Alliance. “It’s only been eight months since the Alliance was formed and we are seeing HD digital radio broadcasts being launched at a much faster pace than expected." The next 18 markets to roll out HD2 multicast programming are: Austin, TX Raleigh, NC Nashville, TN Greensboro, NC New Orleans West Palm Beach, FL Jacksonville, FL Monmouth Ocean Buffalo, NY Oklahoma City, OK Rochester, NY Louisville, KY Richmond, VA Greenville, SC Honolulu, HI Tucson, AZ Albany, NY Ft. Myers, FL
There's a new form of two-way communication called Squidoo. It's part of www2. which includes social bookmarking sites such as del.icio.us. We created a "lens" in Squidoo today for HD Radio. Check out Squidoo -- it's got some fun stuff going for it -- and be sure to search on HD Radio. Cheers!
