HD2 channels make for some strange bedfellows
August 4, 2006 11:39

In a recent USA article, Peter Ferrara, CEO of the HD Radio Alliance, an industry group charged with promoting the adoption of HD Radio, says stations in 28 markets began broadcasting HD side channels (HD2 channels) at the beginning of the year and 22 other markets have either launched since or will do so soon. Most are major media markets.

This has lead to some interesting combinations. For example, WKTU-FM in Jersey City broadcasts dance music on its regular frequency and C&W on an HD2 channel. WLIT has adult contemporary on its main channel and disco on its HD2 outlet. And WSRV-FM in Atlanta, a Classic Hits station, will simulcast Cox Radio's AM750 News/Talk format on its HD2 sub- channel.

What do you think would be the oddest/strangest combinaton of formats? Click on Comments and tell us what you think would be the oddest, strangest or worst possible combination of formats -- like Old School C&W on one channels and Gay Pride Radio on the HD2 channel. We'll try to come up with some kind of a prize for what we think is the best (or worst) combination of formats..
